Karl Pribram, MD interviewed by Howard Kaufman, MD (59:13min)

American Association of Neurological Surgeons: Dr. Pribram was Paul Bucy’s first resident. He describes working with and for Bucy, Gerard, Lyerly, Mettler, Pool, Ransohoff and Semmes. Dr. Pribram was director of the Yerkes Primate Center at Yale and talks about attempting to replicate Fulton’s lobotomy results on chimpanzees. He tells of his interest in the concept of holographic memory and visual perception; the electrophysiology of the brain using three-dimensional Gabor functions; and “Lee Groups.”

Gandhi Memorial Center: On March 15, 2012 the Gandhi Memorial Center presented: “Brain and Consciousness: Neuroscience Aligns with Vedic Wisdom”. Guest speakers discussed the following questions: What can we understand about the layers of the mind? “Who” is the thinker? Is consciousness located in a specific part of the brain? How do some of the latest findings about the brain connect with the Vedic Tradition? The speakers included: Karl Pribram, M.D., Internationally Renowned Neuroscientist, Stanford University Professor Emeritus, Professor at Georgetown University, author of Languages of the Brain, and Brain and Perception; Subhash Kak, Ph.D., Head of Computer Science Dept., Oklahoma State University, with expertise on information theory, cryptography, neural networks, and quantum information. Dr Kak is a Vedic Scholar and the author of Mind and Self: Patanjali and Cognitive Science; and Karen Shanor, Ph.D., Clinical and Neuropsychologist, Lecturer at Georgetown University, former White House consultant, Advisory member for Discovery Channel’s Global Education, and author of The Emerging Mind.
